With decimals and percents, 1=100% (we call this a conversion factor)
so if you have 54%, you multiply it by the conversion factor (unit conversion) and you get:
54% | 1
âââââââ = (cancel % signs or units) and 54/100 is .54
â¦â¦..| 100%
This is a method many people call the picket fence or railroad tracks unit conversion method and if you know what units you need and what units you have, and all of the conversion factors, you just put all of your information in the railroad tracks so that units on top cancel with units on the bottom until all but the units you want are left. For instance: 8 regs =12 goloms, and 1.4 goloms = 1 squirrel, and I have 15 squirrels, how many regs do I have? Well:
15 squirrels | 1.4 goloms | 8 regs
ââââââââââââââââââ-
â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦| 1 squirrel | 12 goloms
squirrels, goloms, and regs are all units and we can cancel those on the top with same units on the bottom, until we are left with just numbers (which we multiply and divide) and units of regs (the unit we were asked for) Multiply through and 15 squirrels=14 regs
Itâs 0.54
In general, to convert a percentage to a decimal, you get rid of the percent sign, then side the decimal over to the left by two places. Which is the same as dividing it by 100.
The easiest way to convert percentages to decimals is to move the decimal point two places to the left:
54.0% = .54
16.4% = .164
100% = 1.00
54/100
0.54
that should do i hope that i was of help let me know if there is a question
