Whats military school like?

I'm currently being homeschooled, and I've expressed to my parents that it's not the right fit for me. They want to prove me wrong, so I'm considering attending military school. I want to clarify that I'm not a "troubled" teen; the worst thing I've ever done is accidentally throw a recyclable water bottle in the trash. I'm curious about what military school is really like. Is it a negative experience, or can it be enjoyable?

Do students have roommates, or do we all sleep in a large dormitory? What are the shower facilities like—are they communal? Additionally, are there any fun activities available, or is it primarily focused on work and discipline? Thank you for your insights!

I went to a military school. I asked my parents to go, as I was just going anywhere academically in public high school and I knew that I needed a different type of discipline to reach my goals once I graduated.

While there were aspects that were mentally and physically tough, none of it was all that hard for me personally. I thrived in the close discipline and actually had a pretty good time.

Each school is different, but none that I know of have open bays for dorms. Usually, you are two to four in a good sized room, with it going down to two to a room for Seniors. Once school I saw on the internet had single rooms for seniors – but that school’s tuition was huge. same as far as showers and latrines. At my school, each room had a private shower/latrine – with three to a room if underclassmen and two to a room for seniors. Chow was pretty good, but a little monotonous.

As best as I can remember it, our standard week day was as follows:

– 0600: reveille

– 0620: first formation and accountability

– 0630: march to Mess I (breakfast)

– 0730: personal time

– 0800: school formation and announcements

– 0820: classes

– 1130: Mess II formation

– 1300: classes

– 1530: electives / sports

– 1800: Mess III formation

– 1930: Study Hall

– 2130: personal time

– 2200: lights out

Despite the sense of limited personal time, it actually worked out to be a fair amount if you did not waste time hanging out in the mess hall and such.

all ‘military’ boarding schools are college prep private schools. by definition, they cost a butt ton of money. they are not affiliated with any Branch in any way shape or form. attending any of them will NOT make you eligible to enlist.

It’s not as bad as people say it is. It’s almost like regular school just more physical work.
