When you start college, does your GPA start off at 4.0?

I never had a high school gpa because I dropped out and did a at home program, but they didn’t have GPA’s. So I don’t have one. I’m starting college and I was wondering about GPA’s. Do they start off at 4.0 and go down reflecting your grades? Or does it start at 0 and work it’s way up, reflecting your grades?

Technically it doesn’t exist, but it does start at 0. The thing to remember is that it’s 0.0 at 0 credits so your GPA first semester will reflect your QPA. Your GPA every semester will be added into your QPA (quality point average or cumulative GPA).
