John, chapter six, for transubstantiation and John 20:21-23 for confession. The Bible mentions the ordination of priests very early. You’ll find it in Genesis 14:18, where Melchizedek is both high priest and king. He is what is known as a “type”, a foreshadowing of a coming event in biblical theology, because there will be another great high priest and king, Jesus Christ. Later, you will find the ordination of the Levites to serve in the Temple of God, where the Ark of Covenant is in the Holy of Holies. Numbers 8:10.By the time of the arrival of Christ, the concept of priesthood was well-established among the Jewish people. There was no problem for Jewish Christians with seeing Christ establish His own priesthood. Jesus ordained His apostles and, in Acts 1, the Holy Spirit comes upon them, enabling them, as the Church, to be guided by the Holy Spirit, as He promised. In Acts 8:17, you find Simon, the magician, trying to purchase the powers of the priesthood; and he is firmly rebuked. Ordination is not for sale. You will find different terms for the priesthood in different translations: some have priest, some presbyter, and some elder. It’s all the same thing, just different terminologies. See Titus:5-14. 1st Peter 5:1-4, Acts chapters 11 and 15. Titus 1:5,9,17, and James 5:14. (Bishops are there too, if you want the qualification they had to meet,)Since priests were ordained and they ordained their successors, the apostolic succession just means that no one could just declare himself a priest nor could it be bought as Simon hoped. Unless you have been validly ordained by a priest who could trace his priesthood back to an apostle, you could not serve the Church as a priest.... Show More
First, since Catholics actually created the Bible, do you actually think that they would not include such things in it? Do you actually think that the Catholics would create a book that contradicts their actions? Even when the Protestants created the King James Version of the Bible, 500 years AFTER the Bible was compiled, they removed 66 books of the original Bible because they didn’t go along with what Protestants were doing. That said, Some of the verses used to substantiate this teaching are the following:Matt. 26:28, “for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”John 6:52-53, “The Jews therefore began to argue with one another, saying, How can this man give us His flesh to eat? 53 Jesus therefore said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.'”1 Cor. 11:27, ” Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.”... It doesnt say anywhere that the bread and wine are literally the body and blood of Jesus. They obviously arent. Its symbolism. We need to first understand the symbolism of the sacrificial lamb to understand this symbolism. The lamb symbolized Christ. Thats why He refers to Himself as the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the earth. Its all symbolism. The bread and wine are literally bread and wine and no one can literally change them into the body of Christ. We do this symbolically whenever we drink the wine and eat the bread. In doing this we remember His love and sacrifice until He returns to be our King.... Show More
There is no apostolic succession in a church that excommunicated two popes and transformation of bread and wine is a fantasy not a reality, but it is bread and wine as symbols of Christ to renew the covevenant of baptism rembering why we are baptised because of the flesh and blood of jesus...
