Where is the Wintapi Wilderness referred to in the book Big Red by Jim Kjelgaard?

I am searching for where the Wintapi Wilderness area is located. It is referred to numerous times in the books by Jim Kjelgaard. Is this a ficticious place? Or does it really exist?
