AntigoneAntigone values divine authority more than human authority, as she is willing to break the law in order to ensure that her brother Polynices receives a respectable burial. King Creon has ascended to the throne of Thebes and he has declared that Polynices is not to be buried or even mourned. The punishment for this is stoning. Antigone, who disagrees with this ruling, defies the king's orders, but is caught.
