Why did the animators of Naruto make Haku look like a girl?

What was the intention behind the animators' decision to design Haku in Naruto with a feminine appearance? I’ve always been curious about the reasoning behind this choice. Could you provide some insights?

The animators didn't do it, Kishimoto did. Of course, I doubt there was really a reason, except to have some really disturbing tension between him and Naruto. And Sasuke. And Zabuza. You know, Haku was just created to be uncomfortable in general.

There are androgynous characters in every anime. There could be any of number of reasons why Haku as a person would maintain the effeminate appearance, and just as many from Kishimoto’s standpoint.

Logically, though, it was probably just to cater to the millions of fangirls foaming at the mouth for bishounen moe (pretty boy love). Having an androgynous boy in an anime is like having the shy girl with attractive curves or the lecherous pervert (though in some anime these are more subtle). It’s just an expectation.

The animators didn't make Haku look like a girl. The creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto did.

Anyways though, Haku most likely looks like a girl for comic relief. When Haku announced to Naruto that he was a boy when they met in the forest, Naruto freaked out a bit. So yeah, it's probably for humour. ?

There's no real reason, except maybe a tactical one. If people think Haku is a girl, they're less likely to see him as a threat. Thus, they would never expect an attack from him. Good cover. Also, androgyny is a big thing in Japan. It's like a skill. Women weren't allowed in the theater, for example, so there were special families of men who trained specifically to play the female roles. Maybe it's a nod to that.

A) It wasn't the animators.

B) Not every little boy who wants to be a ninja can be super manly.

To add comic relief. And to make Sasuke jealous.

Haha, kidding about the second part.
