why do i have fruit flies in bathroom?

I have recently noticed an increasing number of fruit flies in my upstairs bathroom. Today, I counted at least 100 of them. While I know that traps are available to catch them, I am curious about why they are appearing in my bathroom and where they might be coming from. Can anyone provide insights into their presence and potential sources?

probably not fruit flies (reddish color), just getting rid of countered fruit will stop them…fungus gnats and other small flies can be coming from elsewhere in the house and attracted to the light of the bathroom, soil of house plants is first place to guess they may be or if the caulking around the tub needs fixing, moisture may be getting in the walls giving the gnats a wet area to breed.

They’re probably not fruit flies, unless there is any actual fruit in your bathroom. There is a type of small, flying insect (don’t know the name) but when the drain is rarely used and the trap dries up, they breed and come out and fly around. They are slightly bigger than fruit flies. Get something to pour down your drain and also try keeping the stoppers in and plug up the overflow holes (if there are any).

Fruit flies have a very short life span, like just days. There is a breeding ground for them. I would suspect if you have a drain you have not used for sometime, then they are down there. just run water and rain on their parade. Some bleach would really ruin their day.

Fruit flies have tiny red eyes and they lay eggs in fruit.

Gnats are grayish black and they lay eggs in moist places like plant soil, in the commode tank, just in a moist place. If they are hanging over the drain that is the place. Some boiling water down the drain will kill the eggs.

Some soapy water with vinegar in it in the sink will drown the gnats.

It just takes one gnat to lay eggs to get them going.

They have a great sense of smell. They are being drawn there by something. It may be the hand soap or shampoo ore anything it finds irresistible. Try removing suspected things and see what happens.

Are there any areas in your bathroom that are moist? Perhaps under the sink? I would look everywhere I could
