Why doesn’t Holden go down to see Jane?
I've read the book and searched extensively, but I still can't figure out why Holden chooses not to visit Jane. Can someone help me understand his reasoning?

The reason why Holden doesn't go down to see her because he is afraid that Jane has changed. Jane represents the innocence of childhood to him and he doesn't want that to change. He refuses to face the fact she's grown up and likely no longer innocent. As he wants to protect all children's innocence from the corruption of society, he protects Jane by preserving her memory and not ruining it by seeing what became of her.
