Why is the US constitution created in 1700 applicable today?

People from the 1700 had ONE shot bayoneted rifles. I bet you there were no mass shootings back in the 1700s. You see where I’m getting at? why would anyone need automatic rifles to self defense in 2021? Has anyone ever used an automatic rifle in self defense?America=  stupid
