Why would you crave Grapefruits & Oranges?
Why would someone crave grapefruits and oranges? My mom has a daily craving for these citrus fruits, specifically 7 oranges and 2 grapefruits. Despite seeing doctors and having tests run, they haven't been able to provide any answers. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced similar cravings or knows why this may be happening. Thanks for any insights!

I am going to answer this one again now that I’ve thought about it.
1) Might be a mineral/vitamin deficiency.
2) Might be a psychological thing. Could it be that she might be addicted to them? She might not actually need the fruit physically, but she might need them to satisfy a mental urge. You can get addicted to different things for different reasons.
Not weird. I LOVE grapefruit, they’re prety much my favourite fruit. I love pomeloes- so juicy and sweet with those big fat chunks of wedges. You crave it now, we’ve just had a long winter with little sunshone and no fresh fruit for a while, the summer you probably wont crave it, you’ll be eating more fruit generally anyway. If you’re interested-0 try slicing all the rind off and then slicing the grapefruit into thick slices across the equator ( so the slices are cross sections) and then sprinkle cinammon and a little brown sugar on them, grill under the toaster- they’re so good that wway. Pineapple too.

For what it’s worth, I had strong cravings for oranges and grapefruits in the beginning of both of my pregnancies. . .I know this doesn’t really answer your question, but maybe there is some sort of correlation? Interesting.
She may be lacking some vitamin that grapefruits and oranges have. Our bodies are smart and will let you know what they need.
Typically your body tells you what you need and that’s why you have cravings…like when you want a banana or a salad. Her body is missing something and only that combination satisfies it. Who knows. It’s not a bad thing. It’s kind of delicious.
when I have problems with my asthma I crave grapefruit juice a nurse told me it is the vitamin C my body is needing.
I know sometimes you crave things that contain what your body needs. So maybe her body needs some vitamins citrus contains alot of vitamin c so that could be it.

I dont think there is a huge problem there. Maybe she is addicted to them because she loves them so much. I doubt you will find anything wrong with her through “tests”. Thats just like testing someone at the Doctors office because every day they HAVE to watch Oprah, or everyday they HAVE to have their coffee.
