For the purpose of an application: Stay, notify the boss and remain until someone can relieve you. In reality: I’d leave considering I could lose my job (right or wrong). If you really like the job, pick up the slack but you have neither moral nor legal obligation unless you signed something saying you did. I have, more than once, left if not relieved in a timely manner.

Why are we doing YOUR application? I’d call the person if I could, and if I couldn’t or it didn’t do any good then I would contact the manager. Some one is in charge over me. Yes you keep working until relieved, but I’m sure they don’t want you working not knowing you aren’t leaving like you were expected to be. If nothing else it would help you look better that hey you are still there.

I’d try to contact the person scheduled to work. If I couldn’t get in contact with that person, I’d call some of my other coworkers and see if any of them could come in. If no one was available, I might stay late if I could; if not, I’d call my boss and explain the situation to him/her.

Me personally? If I had their information, I would call them and find out where they were. Sure, it’s their responsibility to call in if they are running late, but sometimes people forget. If I didn’t have their information or could not get ahold of them, I would call my manager to ask for further instructions.
