Acetic Anhydride is a liquid of density 1.08 g/mL. What is the mass of acetic anhydride?

In this experiment, we added 6 mL of acetic anhydride to the flask. Given that acetic anhydride has a density of 1.08 g/mL, what is the mass of the acetic anhydride used?

multiply density by volume; mL will cancel out and leave you with mass in grams

1.08 g/mL * 6 mL = 6.48 g

The density tells you that 1ml has a mass of 1.08g, so 6ml will be 6 times that.

the mass would just be the volume multiplied by the density: 6.492 g divide the masses of the anhydride by the molar mass, and divide the mass of the salycilic acid by its relative molar mass. if you have the mole ratio given in the molecular equation, show that the moles of anhydride are that times bigger than the moles of the acid: convert the mass of salycylic acid into moles by dividing by its molar mass. multiply by the moles ratio of salycilic to acetysalicylic to get the moles of acetylsalicylic and multiply that by the molar mass of the acetylsalicilc
