No, Stevie was not in it. "Computer Love" is one of Zapp’s biggest hits; it was written by Shirley Murdock and the band members and brothers, Larry and Roger Troutman. According to Discogs.com, after the introduction of computerized music by Kraftwerk, this R&B interpretation of "Computer Love," produced by Zapp, was released in 1985.
This 1985 classic electronic funk soul ballad single, which was also a Grammy-nominated R&B song, turned many heads upon its release. Known primarily for its electronic music sound, it was Kraftwerk who pioneered this style. However, what music enthusiasts did not expect was an R&B interpretation that introduced these electronic music styles.
According to Neworleansmusicstore.tripod.com, the song also featured the vocals of Charlie Wilson from The Gap Band, alongside Shirley Murdock.
The Gap Band and the Zapp Band had been on tour together when Roger invited Charlie to listen to a new track. This was the first time Troutman had put a ballad together, and he was nervous about the result. Wilson offered to help and went into the studio to improvise lyrics over the track. It only took two attempts to arrive at the finished product.
Uncle Charlie's (Charlie Wilson) vocals feature prominently in the '94 mix while remaining faithful to the original.
Though Roger sadly passed away in 1999, the thrilling Zapp legacy lives on, fueled by his original creative spirit, with the hard-working, fearless current lineup still producing new material and performing for enthusiastic fans.
