are big black moths good or bad luck?
There is a large, dark brown, almost black moth on one of the windows in my kitchen. Is it considered good or bad luck, and what does its presence mean? I’ve heard differing opinions, with some saying it brings good luck and others claiming it symbolizes bad luck. Additionally, my grandmother mentioned that shortly before my grandfather became ill and passed away, a big black moth was flying around his head while he was gardening. What could this signify, or is it merely superstition? My family doesn’t typically adhere to superstitions.

It is just superstition…a moth is a moth and I don’t believe in luck or superstitions..they are just old tales that people made up to make them feel better or worse in some cases.

Rest assured Natalie, that it is neither good or bad. Luck is what you make it to be, based on events that occur within a timeframe relative to the event.
It sticks in your mind so much that the related occurance just seems to be an effect of the sighting. You’ll be fine, I’m sure.
It’s neither good nor bad. If you feel it has significance for you than it does. Otherwise it’s just a moth.
If it’s not harming you in any way, why kill it?
It only means that there’s more light inside than out.. Its attracted to the lights… It’s color is of no known significance to your future fate.
Now if it were a black cat then that’s another matter altogether.
The color black has traditionally been associated with bad luck (i.e. a black cat). It has also been associated with grieving and death (i.e common funeral attire). It has been used in the names of terrible events (i.e. the Black Death and the Black Plague). It has been used in sayings to denote something not so good (i.e. “They have given me a black mark.” “They have given my reputation a black eye.”) But now, because black peoples feelings may be hurt, the color black cannot be used as it traditionally has. And we should understand and embrace blacks for the good they have done for our country.
