Based on the explicit and implicit information from the passage, the reader can infer that a) tableware was rarer in elizabethan times

Based on the explicit and implicit information from the passage, the reader can infer that: a) tableware was rarer in Elizabethan times than it is today; b) Elizabethan diners were more informal than modern diners; c) Elizabethans preferred sharing food more than contemporary individuals do; d) guests were happier in Elizabethan times than they are now.

The passage indicates that guests sometimes brought their own knives and spoons, while at other times these were provided by the host. If a dish did not require a spoon, such as something soft or soupy, diners would eat with their fingers, using knives primarily to take food from the main serving platter and to cut it when necessary. Notably, knives were placed on the right side of the trencher, and bread was situated on the left. Cups were not placed on the table; instead, guests had to request drinks from a servant, who would bring a cup from a side table or a cool bath of water. After finishing their drink, guests would return the cup to the servant, who would rinse it out for the next guest.

We can answer to that question by working through the options. The excerpt shows eating ethics in Elizabethan times. Option B is not correct. We can observe some etiquettes although they are limited. There is nothing related to sharing. Therefore, option C is incorrect. Similarly, we can not learn anything related to satisfaction or happiness. Answer D is not correct. The correct answer is A in which it is clearly described in the excerpt.

Based on the explicit and implicit information from the passage, the reader can infer that A. tableware was rarer in Elizabethan times than it is today. Under the reign of the stylish Queen Elizabeth I, England emerged as the first world's first super power. Elizabethan aristocratic etiquette were more than simple rules, were the sum of the person's social actions, tastes in fashion, and sense of refinement. Table manners were extremely important.

The correct option is this: TABLEWARE WAS RARER IN ELIZABETHAN TIMES THAN IT IS TODAY.From the passage, it can be seen that, during Elizabethan times, people has to go to invited diners armed with their own spoons and knives. During dinner, cups were not  placed on the table because they were scarce, instead many guests share one cup. All these show that tableware were scarce commodities during that time.
