Butter Taste In Mouth?

Today, I have been experiencing a persistent taste of butter in my mouth, and it's driving me insane. I tried brushing my teeth and using Listerine, but the taste returns after a while. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I don't have any known medical issues, and I don't smoke, although I do have asthma. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

A buttery taste in the mouth is usually caused by inflammation and stagnation of the gums according to dentists - are your gums pink and firm or are they red and swollen? Make sure your mouthwash is alcohol free and be sure to consume plenty of anti-inflammatory foods like fresh fruits and vegetables and cut down on inflammatory foods like sugar, meat and dairy. Infection is inflammation so the buttery test can be present if you have a cold etc. For your asthma if you feel it's related, I'd recommend getting a food intolerance test done.

some health conditions and medications can produce a phantom taste (though generally people describe having a metalic taste). Some foods have after tastes (have you eaten anything new?). Transient Ischemic Attacks (mini strokes) and tiny seizures can also produce phantom tastes and smells (for me, it's the smell of vanilla, for my father it is roses). If it concerns you a lot, talk to your doctor.
