College lost my transcripts! Can I sue?!?
I graduated from a Culinary Arts program in 2000, which was a two-year course that cost $40,000. I am now joining the Army as a cook, and because I have completed the Culinary Arts program, I can bypass the Army training, which normally lasts eight weeks. Additionally, I would receive half of my tuition back—$20,000—as well as the opportunity for a quicker promotion, allowing me to potentially earn $50,000 a year within a year rather than waiting four to five years for that salary.
The problem is that the Army requires my transcripts from the Culinary Arts course, and when I contacted the college, they informed me they cannot find them. I still have my diploma, but the Army needs a copy of the transcripts to verify that my education meets their criteria.
Do you have any suggestions for how I should proceed? Is it possible for me to sue the college for the financial loss and the delay in my application process?

If you have a diploma, you should be able to go to the college and get the transcripts. If they really have lost them, which I think is total BS, because they should have many copies backed up on a server, then you may be able to do something about it in the court system; but would cost you a lot of money. They only explanation that I can give you is that they only hold the transcripts on record for just so long. But I do believe that it would be 10 or 15 years anyway. Like I was saying before, sounds like a pile a BS.
I’m sure you probably could but there is also a statue of limitations on any lawsuit the average citizen would want to file. In your case you are right how many former employers looked up your past high school to see that you dropped out of high school even though you know you graduated and have your diploma that could affect your hiring of prospective employers no doubt about that. If you want to,I mean now pursue this talk with a good lawyer before going that route,I mean lets be serious now a days you can sue anybody but you also have to have a valid reason a good lawyer and he/she better know what their doing else it could cost you financially and personally good luck.

They didn’t give you a copy when you got your diploma? Most schools will give you one set free.
I’d keep calling the school, til they find them. If they don’t you could sue, as long as you can prove the benefits that you will not be receiving due to their error then you should be able to get something.
…first…you can “sue” anyone for anything but make sure you have all your “ducks in a row”… call the School and talk with he Executive director… if that doesn’t work, call the Better Business Bureau in the area and write your Local Congressman… things will start to happen…
