Human societies and their interactions have led to divisions of territories into countries and various other subdivisions. While these divisions are at their root artificial, they are important to geographers in the discussion of interactions of various populations... Show More

The development of the East African coastal region was greatly influenced by it s excellent strategic position. It became a trading center where goods from three continents were passing by, and lots of money, as well as innovations and technologies were coming in this part of the continent. If the situation was different, like suggests, if the region was an inland desert or mountainous area in Africa, than it was going to be a very backwards region in every aspect. The people would have steel been living in primitive tribal societies, and there's big possibility that they were going to practice a nomadic lifestyle as well. And those kind of conditions will not allow the formation of developed society, or great empire.... Show More

The main thing is that being in the coast, East Africa’s proximity to the sea facilitate trade and the connection to other cultures for the movement of visitors and traders.  The region might develope differently if it were on an inland desert or in a mountainous area. The trade could have not been an advantage for the difficulties of the geography of a desert or a mountain area. East Africa’s geographic proximity to the Indian Ocean truly allowed the region to its historical development.  ... Show More

If it is different maybe it will take long before it develops. It developed because it was a strategic location for trade with other countries. If it is an inland or mountain area, it would not be the centre of the business so the development will much be slower ... Show More

The climate of East Africa is rather atypical of equatorial regions. Because of a combination of the region's generally high altitude and the rain shadow of the westerly monsoon winds created by the Rwenzori Mountains and Ethiopian Highlands, East Africa is surprisingly cool and dry for its latitude. Well the old empires like ghana might have had a harder time survivng as traveling through mountains is hard. Now try moving an army through their. Plus in mountains their isnt alot of grass for the animals to graze making food harder. Another way this would be hard is horses. The ghanians horses were successful because they had land to run on. If these mountains were steep then they probably might have trouble going up them. Also in the mountains its dangerous because thats most likely were thieves are. The only way merchants survived was by traveling in caravans. Now try moving caravans through big steep mountains. Imagine if their was an avalance or they got lost. This would hurt trade immensely. ... Show More
