In one of the episodes of Hardcore Pawn, the manager, Les Gold, became physically ill and was rushed to the hospital. Les underwent surgery for a hernia.
Les Gold is a third-generation pawnbroker and the enigmatic head of American Jewelry and Loan. His family first opened Sam's Loan on Michigan Ave. and Wabash in the early 1940s. His father worked his way into the store. His jewelry shop is a 50,000-square-foot establishment and employs more than 45 individuals.
