Dissociation equation for C6H5NH3+?
The problem asks us to write the dissociation equation for C6H5NH3+ with water as a reactant. Would this be correct? C6H5NH2 + H2O → C6H5NH3+ + OH-? I realize that this equation doesn't exactly represent the dissociation of C6H5NH3+, but I'm struggling to understand how a positively charged species can react with water. Can someone clarify this for me?

Water can act as an acid or base depending on the other reactant. In this case, water would act as a base in which it would accept a proton from C6H5NH3+ to form the hydronium ion H3O+. You're left with an amine and the hydronium ion for products.
C6H5NH3+ + H2O ---> C6H5NH2 + H3O+
Water is a weak base, but it is a base, so it can react with water. Check out my picture.
Hope I helped!
