And brace yourself for one unhappy male (you might have to consider crating him too, to be on the safe side), and probably an equally unhappy female too. You could kennel him or get a friend to take him for the duration. Why are you considering breeding them at all? If you are not aware of how to keep them apart it doesn’t sound as if you are into breeding the way you should be!! If she/they is too young yet, you won’t yet know whether he is going to be the right male for her in terms of doubling up on faults (which will come out in the puppies big time). And to be frank, if they were from a reputable breeder (= from good stock), they would be endorsed in any case, which means you’d have to take them back to their breeder to have the endorsements lifted (if they had matured into worthy examples of their breed). Otherwise forget it. Also, if this is her first season you have at least another two events like this to live through before you can even consider breeding them. Good luck! Add – I have used season supressing pills in the past on my bitches (out in Canada). I only used them on the girls I wasn’t going to breed from again, because of the timing re scheduling their spay surgeries – in other words I took them out again to avoid having to confine them. And that’s all. I asked my vet about doing this with my current puppy as I was going to hold off spaying her for one season. He told me the pills were no longer available (UK – Overban I think they were called) and he didn’t want to inject either, saying there are undesirable side effects. I wouldn’t use either for bitches I intended to breed from. My puppy has just been spayed incidentally – 10 months and still no season, so I went ahead.... Show More
