Does ibuprofen stop period?

Okay. I have been told by certian OBGYN’s that high doses of ibuprofen can stop period flow. However there are tons of ppl and dr’s who say the opposite is true. In my experience it works. They say to take 800 mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours and not exceed at certain amount whatever the maximum of ibuprofen per day is i think around 3000 mg and its supposed to stop menstrual flow. I took 800 and it stopped completely same day. I know other friends I’ve told the same thing and works for them. Why is that this works for some women and not others?

It can, yes. It’s sometimes prescribed to prevent a hormone called prostagladin from contracting the uterus and stomach lining for people who either get nausea during their periods or have a heavy flow. Sometimes it stops menstruation entirely and sometimes it just makes it lighter or shorter. I’m not positive why, but I would hazard a guess that it has something to do with the amount of prostagladin you naturally produce.

Why do you want to stop your period? And take large amounts of ibuprofen sounds like not a great idea. Why mess around with nature. If your flow is super heavy, going on the Birth Control pill can lighten your flow and regulate you.
