Fish from Petco died, do i have to bring it in?
I purchased a fish from Petco on Sunday, and it unfortunately died this morning. Do I need to bring the dead fish in to receive a refund, or is it sufficient to bring just the receipt?

I think for Petco you do have to actually bring the fish back. Try putting it a plastic bag ziplock bag and taking it back immediately, or putting it in the freezer if you can’t go right this second. Gross, I know, but I’ve done it before with my LFS.
You might be able to get by with a picture of the dead fish, but I don’t think the receipt alone will do it.
You have to bring in the dead fish, the receipt, and the water sample to get your money back or exchange it for another fish. You have to do this so they know they’re not just giving you a free fish or one that died because of your water. If they test the water and its bad water then you wont get your money back.
Some will. Call and ask. I know some pet store will require you to bring in a sample of the water so they can check the levels. If the levels are okay then they will replace the fish. If your levels were way high or low, they won’t because it was your fault the fish died. Good luck.
Please read on planetfeedback.com “Petco’s return policy ꜱᴜcκs.” I have told people whenever they have asked not to buy fish and Petco or Petsmart. They generally have no return policy, and are sullen and insulting. With a receipt you might get lucky. I’d bring the dead fish too. So many of Petco’s fish have IcK it should be criminal. But Petco just wants your money. Try to find a fish store that is run by independent aquarists, no a corporation. Not only do they care about their customers more, they know much more.
Just to be fair, Petco’s Online business is much more professional.

Take both. The receipt proves you bought a fish on Sunday, the fish itself proves that it’s dead.

they also want a sample of water so they’ll test your fish and see if it was their fault. you should call the store u got the fish from and talk to the manager, i’m sure they will take it back, but have your reciept too… and if u have a pals card im pretty sure they might be able to look it up, but i don’t know i work at cvs and we can’t look things up with just their extracare card….
petco is pretty good with returns, you just gotta go to the store u got it from…
Receipt=proof of purchase.
dead fish=proof of death
Otherwise you could be bringing in some other dead fish you didn’t buy from there, or claiming a dead fish when he is actually swimming around happy in your tank.
not completely sure about Petco, but Petsmart does require the fish AND the receipt. you might as well take both just to be sure.
Yes you have to take the body and the receipt in for them to replace the fish.
