I was playing a game of poker and ended up with four of a kind, specifically four 6s. My friend, on the other hand, had a flush. In this situation, who wins the hand?

Four of a kind beats a flush, but a straight or royal flush beats 4 of a kind.
4 of a kind beats a flush, but what you listed (9, 10, J, Q, K) straight, if it’s a straight flush beats 4 of a kind, so does a royal flush. However, if it’s just a straight you’re talking about, a flush beats it.
It goes Straight < Flush < Full House < Four of a kind < Straight Flush < Royal Flush .

If it is not a straight flush then Four-of-a-kind beats a regular flush.

4 six’s won’t beat 9-10-J-Q-K if they are all the same suit. That’s a straight flush.
