The number is 1800. Eight percent of 1800 is 144; thus, 1800 + 144 = 1944.

To solve this, you can set up a proportion. If the original number is 100%, then 1944 would be 108% of the original (since it was increased by 8%).

Solving the proportion gives you:

1944 * 100 = 108 * x

x = (1944 * 100) / 108
