How did the rise of cash crops contribute to the trend of individuals leaving rural farming communities to seek opportunities in urban areas?

Cash crops are grown for one reason, profit to the farmer. Up until the late 1800’s the majority of farmers grew enough food to support themselves, with a small percentage of product for sale to others. With the advent of the industrial revolution, one example being John Deere, and his invention/perfection of the steel plow which allowed for more grain production; it was suddenly possible for one farmer to produce a greater abundance of cash crops versus personal substance crops.
The higher production drove down the price, which had the effect of making it more affordable to live in the city, and the added effect of forcing farmers who could not compete to find another line of work, usually in an urban setting.
