The Jay Treaty, also known as The Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation, was a treaty between Britain and The United States. Created in 1795 with main purpose of averting war, which also resolved issues remaining since the Treaty of Paris of 1783. The main benefits for the American country from this treaty were that basically Britain had to respect American neutrality rights, would also have to pay for American ships captured ilegally and surrender their military posts in the North. They also wanted to to maintain its neutral status in the war between Britain and France, and mantain commerce with the British.

The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 brought into the United States about 828,000 square miles of territory from France, thereby doubling the size of the young republic. What was known at the time as the Louisiana Territory stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Gulf of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. Part or all of 15 states were eventually created from the land deal, which is considered one of the most important achievements of Thomas Jefferson’s presidency. In a speech to Congress in 1823, President James Monroe warned European powers not to attempt further colonization or otherwise interfere in the Western Hemisphere, stating that the United States would view any such interference as a potentially hostile act. Later known as the Monroe Doctrine, this policy principle would become a cornerstone of U.S. diplomacy for generations. The Homestead Act was enacted by the U.S. government to settle the open West (for the North, because this went down during the Civil War). It also had the side benefit of reducing population in over-crowded eastern cities by enticing people to hit the trails and head out west.

The Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation, Between His Britannic Majesty and the United States of America, commonly known as the Jay Treaty, and also as Jay's Treaty, was a 1795 treaty between the United States and Great Britain that averted war, resolved issues remaining since the Treaty of Paris of 1783, and facilitated ten years of peaceful trade between the United States and Britain in the midst of the French Revolutionary Wars, which began in 1792. The Treaty was designed by Alexander Hamilton and supported by President George Washington. It angered France and bitterly divided Americans. It inflamed the new growth of two opposing parties in every state, the pro-Treaty Federalists and the anti-Treaty Democratic Republicans.
