How does an arrest warrant work?

I’m fairly certain I have a warrant out for my arrest. How does the process work if one is issued for you? How likely is it that I will be arrested on it?

Depends, is it for murder or robbing 5 banks? If so you are going to have lots of people looking for you.If for a minor crime or for not showing up in court in my city we have officers who act like bill collectors bothering you and family until you come in to give yourself up.If an officer knows you, like it was his case you did not show up in court for, they often look for you where they know you hang out or at your work. No matter what the warrant is for if an officer reasonably believes you are somewhere, in your house, at a friends or at work, and has knowledge of the warrant they can break in and get you. That is my jurisdiction. In some common law states some warrants can only be served during daylight hours.Otherwise the information is in any number of computer systems (again depending on level of crime). If stopped or ran on a computer by any cop for any reason in your own area it will pop up,even if just for parking tickets. In my city you get arrested, brought into a station for processing, booked with fingerprints and photos taken and if you can come up with the pre set bond (minor crimes) on the warrant you are let out after your prints clear showing you are not wanted other places under other names. About 3 hours with paperwork. You are given a court date.If not you stay overnight until the sheriff picks you up to go to court to see a judge who decides your fate. All major (felony) warrants get to wait to see a judge. My city we have bond court every morning 365.... Show More
If you’re not certain, you can call a bail bond and they’ll be able to help you find out whether you have a warrant or not. If you DO have one, they could probably help you with info on how to get it cleared too which might cost some money depending on what your warrant is for. But if you don’t try and get it cleared, what will happen is the police will look for you at your place of residence, your place of work, or any other places where you frequently hang out at to arrest you and bring you in. They might not do it every single day, but they’ll look for you every other day until they find you. With that said, it is VERY likely you will be arrested UNLESS you clear your warrant. And cops usually checks anybody they cross paths with for warrants like it’s standard procedure.... Show More
You need to contact the police. If you don’t, they may go looking for you which could turn out to be very embarrassing. If you ever get pulled over, a cop will always check to see if there is a warrant for you. I think is always depends on what the warrant is for. If it’s pretty severe, they will look for you....
