Bubba Smith was featured in the first Lite beer commercial, which was the inaugural Miller Lite beer advertisement. He and Richard Butkus appeared in several Miller Lite commercials together in the late 1970s (from 1977 onward) and early 1980s.
In 1978, George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin starred in a commercial promoting Miller Lite, which initiated the long-running "tastes great/less filling" debate. In the commercial, Steinbrenner "fired" Martin, to which Martin replied, "Oh, not," alluding to the challenging season for the Yankees.
Bubba Smith passed away at the age of 66 in 2011. He played for the Colts, Raiders, and Oilers during his NFL career.
Former NFL player and actor Alex Karras died earlier this month. He is credited with paving the way for former NFL players like O.J. Simpson and Bubba Smith. He was 77 years old.... Show More
