How long do braces hurt for?

I got my braces on yesterday afternoon, and they didn’t start to hurt until just before I went to bed. They hurt today, but I was able to eat a little bit of sausage this morning and some eggs. At lunch, I tried to eat fries, which felt really strange and hurt, but I pushed through because I was hungry! How long does this discomfort usually last? I feel like I’m going to be hungry a lot since I used to eat all the time. Also, what can I do at school to remove food from my braces? I don’t really want to have to brush or floss at school. Thanks!

In the beginning they’ll probably hurt for about a week or so, and you really want to stay away from any foods you have to bite, crunch or chew alot (basically stuff like apples, biscuits, meat..) not saying you can’t eat that sort of stuff but trust me – you’ll know what I mean if you even try biting into an apple!

You’ll be able to eat like normal most of the time, the only other time they really hurt is when you get the wire changed/tightened and stuff. Again, you’ll just need to suck it up like you are right now and keep to food that’s easy to eat. You’ll find out what works for you soon enough!

As for getting food out of braces.. it really won’t happen that often, it’s just like without braces.. but if it’s something you worry about, go check in the bathroom mirror after you’ve eaten, or keep a small mirror with you and check, probably won’t be anything stuck in there at all so don’t worry about it! 🙂

congragulations on getting braces.

don’t worry they won’t hurt for long. only for about a week and then the pain should go away and you’ll even forget you have braces.

if the pain is really bad just take a tylenol and when you eat i recommend eating soft foods for the first week or week and a half.

the orthodontist should have gave you a little baggy full of papers telling you how to brush, blah blah, and a little thing called a proxy brush. it looks like this.

http://www.dentalgentlecare.com/images/proxy_brush…

just put it in your pocket and after lunch you the bathroom and get the food out of your teeth. it literally only takes like 15 seconds.

this is how you use it. you should face the proxy up when your on your bottom teeth and down your working on your top teeth. this way you won’t poke yourself in the gum. the girl in the picture is doing the opposite of what i’m saying so yeahh, haha.

if you don’t have one just give your ortho a call and he can give you one. this is where i get mine.

good luck with your braces :]

i had braces FOREVER . 4 and 1/2 years . they do suck, but its worth it in the end . they with hurt for a week about it, and every time you get them tightened for the first couple times it will hurt to . and for the food thing ? you have to brush . there really isnt much else you could do . you could buy those little wisps or whatever you call them tho, so you dont have to haul around your toothbrush and toothpaste . lol . hope i helped you some !

I got my braces on in February. Initially when you put them on they don’t hurt very much, just feel very awkward but after a day it pains a lot. Give it a few days, the pain will die down and you’ll start to get used to them. It is probably the most pain you will feel throughout the time period you have them on. Getting them tightened will also hurt a little but not as much and you begin to get used to them. Eventually, we won’t feel them. In the beginning it is very difficult to eat with braces on so try to eat softer or more liquid-er things that don’t get stuck like soup. Just wash it all down with water, but when you get home, brush your teeth. Make sure you clean on a daily basis or else it gets nasty. Hope this helps.

Well, personally, mine didn’t hurt straight away, they only really hurt when I got them tightened a few months later.

I suggest eating soft, mushy foods if they hurt, && if your parents allow you too, take a painkiller.

Maybe you could carry a little pocket size mirror around with you, && just be careful what you eat, or ask your friends to let you know if you ever have food stuck in your brace. :]

Braces only hurt for a week or two and every time you get them tightened it might feel sore. Take some Tylenol to reduce the pain.

they don’t hurt for that long. like when they hurt, try to just eat softer foods. every time you go back to the orthodontist and they tighten your wires, then it’ll hurt for like 1 day. usually it stops hurting after like 2 or 3 days max.

bring an extra toothbrush to school and after you eat during lunch, go to the bathroom and brush. usually that’s how you get it off. yea, agreed. i don’t like brushing at school, so i barely ever do. but when your used to it, all u do is use your tongue to get it off (it sounds kind of disgusting. but that’s what i do.)

hope this helps! ?

Not long – 3/4 days

and dont worry you wont get food stuck in them..the orthodontists make them sound worse than they are. I still ate and drank the same foods/drinks as normal and mine never broke!! I brushed them as normal – not really any need to clean them with the huuge pack they give you lmao. I had mine on just 6 months :)))
