How many grams of Phosgenite can be obtained…..?

How many grams of phosgenite can be obtained from 14.5 g of PbO and 14.5 g of NaCl in the presence of excess water and CO2? The balanced equation is as follows: 2PbO + 2NaCl + H2O + CO2 = Pb2Cl2CO3 + 2NaOH. Phosgenite can be considered a mixture of two lead compounds. Which compounds are combined to form phosgenite? Please provide your answers in chemical formulas.

what you’re doing here is a limiting reagent question.

n(PbO) = m/M = 14.5/(207.2+16) = 0.064964mol

n(NaCl) = m/M = 14.5/(35.45+22.99) = 0.248118mol

since the ratios are 2:2, the PbO is the limiting reagent.

mol(phosgenite) = 1/2 x 0.064964 = 0.032482

mass(phosgenite) = n*M = 0.032482 x (2*207.2 + 2*35.45 + 12.01 + 3*16)

= 0.032482 x 545.31

= 17.713g (3dp)

atomic mass of Cl2 = 70.1 25g/70.1gm/mol = 0.357 moles of Cl2 From the stoichiometry, you would get 2 x 0.357 moles of HCl from this This is equal to 0.714 moles of HCl Molar mass of HCl = 36.5 gm/mole 0.714 mole x 36.5 gm/mole = 26.06 grams of HCl
