how much is my old gold half Sovereign ring worth?

I have an old gold 18-carat half Sovereign ring that I believe dates back to around 1908. Can anyone provide an estimate of its current value? Thank you!

Modern half sovereigns, from 1817 onwards, have a diameter of 19.30 mm, a thickness of ~0.99 mm, a weight of 3.99 g, are made of 22 carat (91⅔ %) gold alloy, and contain 0.1176 troy ounces (3.6575 g) of gold. Based on a gold price of US $1,665 per troy ounce, it has a gold melt-down value of $196 or GBP124.

The 1908 half sovereign is considered a bullion gold coin and it is very unlikely to have a collector’s value premium, especially mounted in a ring.

If it is a half-sovereign ring, it doesn’t weigh 2.4 grams – because a half-sovereign on it’s own weighs just under 4.0 grams. If it does weigh 2.4 grams, it doesn’t contain a genuine half-sovereign.

Sovereigns and half-sovereigns are not 18 carat (not carrot – that’s a vegetable) gold – they are 22 carat.

If your ring, whatever it is, contains 2.4 grams of 18 carat gold, it would be worth about £60 for it’s scrap value. Whether it would have any greater value because of its design or maker would need an expert to tell you – and they would have to see it.

A genuine 1908 half-sovereign, depending on its condition and mint mark, could be worth over £300 – but condition is everything!

Since there is only one sovereign in the half a bucket, the bucket sizes is now established that it will hold 2 sovereigns worth of coin. Even though the sovereigns in the first bucket are cut in half and are useless as actual coins, the gold content will still make that bucket worth more. Unless they were like rare, then numismatists would hunt you down and hurt you.
