How to make a Thesis Statement for Dummies! Please help!?
I have listened in class and searched extensively on Google and Yahoo, but I still struggle to understand how to create a thesis statement. This difficulty has been affecting my grades. Could someone please explain how to formulate a thesis statement in the simplest way possible? Thank you!

A thesis statement announces the topic AND the point you’re going to make about the topic.
For example:
Topic My point
School Uniforms adopting a school uniform can solve many problems for the
school and the students
Thesis statement: Although many students dislike the idea of wearing a school uniform, the adoption of uniforms can be beneficial for both the students and the school.
The supporting paragraphs might then describe how uniforms enhance safety by making it immediately visible who belongs at the school and how doesn’t, how uniforms eliminate envy of students with expensive clothing and distractions from students with unusual clothing, how they reduce arguments between parents and children over what to wear to school, etc.
The thesis should contain something that needs to be supported; that someone might argue with.

A thesis should be short and concise. It should tell the reader exactly what your paper is about without going on too long. Typically your thesis should be able to get to the point in a sentence.

The purpose of a thesis statement is to summarize the purpose of your essay in one sentence. It typically includes an opening statement that states the purpose of the essay and then the basic idea of your major points of argument in support of your statement (There are typically three, but there doesn’t have to be). The most important part about forming a thesis statement is making it explicit, comprehensive, clear and concise. You must succinctly present your ideas and then support each one in a body paragraph of your essay. Good luck!
