How to stop self-harming? And also did my teacher go too far?

I'm reaching out for help regarding a personal issue. I started self-harming about six months ago by cutting. In January, my teacher discovered what I was doing. She spoke to me about it in a surprisingly calm manner, believing that I had stopped. However, I continued. Two weeks ago, she noticed the scars but chose not to address them. Last Friday, after school, she grabbed my wrist and asked me about it. The conversation was similar to the one we had in January. She made me promise not to self-harm over the weekend, and I managed to refrain, but I ended up doing it again the following Monday.

Yesterday, she suspected that I had self-harmed again because I was "acting differently." After school, when we were alone in the classroom, my usually kind and cheerful teacher changed her demeanor. She lectured me about my behavior; while she didn’t yell, she definitely raised her voice. She insisted that I need help because my situation is "out of control." I didn’t share the reasons behind my self-harm, even though she was trying to get me to open up. She asked me to promise not to self-harm over the weekend again and then checked my wrist. She informed me that she would be monitoring me weekly, and if she suspects I have harmed myself again, she will call the authorities, likely due to legal obligations.

I’m struggling with how to stop self-harming. I wish I could just force myself to stop, but self-harm has been a way for me to manage my anxiety attacks. I fear that if I stop, my anxiety will overwhelm me. It feels like my teacher doesn’t understand why I do this, and I worry that if I tell her about my anxiety, she will feel compelled to report it. I really need some guidance on how to navigate this situation. Please help!

Your teacher cares about your well being. She cares about you more than you care about yourself right now. Don’t make her a villain in all this.
