Is a truffle a nut or does it contain nuts?
I have a severe nut allergy and am curious if truffles are considered nuts or if they contain any nut ingredients. Can I safely include truffles in my diet?

A true truffle is like a mushroom, so you should not have an allegeric reaction to nuts when eating it.
A truffle may also be a chocolate confection. You may have a problem with a chocolate truffle as it may have been made near/in a facility that processes nuts. There also may be nuts in the chocolate truffles filling.

Well if youre highly allergic to nuts I probably would try it, most companies that make chocolates handle nuts also.
Truffles do not contain nuts, to my knowledge at least. Read the label to make sure.

A truffle is a mushroom. It is usually hunted with pigs (I don’t remember exactly, but I think it is hunted with male pigs because it emits a scent that is similar to a female in heat). It’s not a nut, but you still may be allergic to it.
To test food allergies it’s best to get a blood test by a doctor. If you are going to eat it anyway, then at least try the following: I have random food allergies and was told to start by rubbing the food on the back of your hand or inside of your wrist. If you don’t break out in a rash after 10 minutes, try rubbing it on your lips. After another ten minutes and still no reaction, then try rubbing it on your tongue. If still no reaction (increased saliva, itching, nausea) then it should be ok. But it is still NO GUARANTEE!!! Best thing is to get tested. If you eat it anyway, have some benedryl (diphenhydramine) on hand or an epi-pen.

unless it says it has nuts, it probably doesn’t. you may want to be a bit careful, because some chocolate companies have machines that handle nuts as well..
if you’re worried about it- just leave it alone. it probably has come in contact with some form of nut in the factory..
good luck
a truffle could be either a type of fungus (you know, what truffle pigs dig up) or a candy, in which case it might or might not contain nuts. i would suggest reading the package.
