please help me! dirt bike or pit bike? difference?

ok so what is the difference between an ssr 125cc pit bike, or a 200cc dirt bike? they look the same, is the pit bike smaller? im 15, and weigh 140 lbs. i will be riding in a lot of hills, so which would be better? including price, power, and size which one would be better? thanks

Ok, first of all you are looking at Chinese bikes. They are not the same as a “real” dirt bike or motocrosser manufactured by Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM or Husqvarna.A pit bike is smaller than a dirt bike. A pit bike is made for a rider to ride in the pits to go to the port-a-potty, get some lunch or to ride over to talk to his buddies. A dirt bike is a bike that can be ridden off road and can be used on a motocross track without the fear of breaking it in half. Get yourself a real dirt bike. If you cannot afford a new one, then look on Ebay, Craigslist or Biketrader for a used bike. You will find that for the price of a new Chinese bike you can pick up a decent used Japanese bike for the same price. Japanese bikes are built better and there are more parts available for them.For your age and size, I would recommend a Honda XR100, Yamaha TTR 125 or a Kawasaki KLX 110.To find out what bike would be best sized for you, go to your local dealers and sit on a few bikes. This will give you a general idea of what size of bike to look for in the used market place.Good luck and have fun.

Are you sure it isn’t a Yamaha PW80? I’m pretty sure the only 85 Yamaha has ever made was the YZ and it is bigger than a KTM 65. Anyway that’s beside the point. Is there a difference between a pit bike and a small dirt bike? That is a very good question that doesn’t have a clear answer. There is no real definition of a pit bike. Originally it meant exactly what it sounds like it would. It was just a bike that racers rode around the pits. It could be pretty much anything. I used a CRF230 as a pit bike a couple years back. The next definition of a pit bike is in pit bike racing terms and there will be certain specifications there like no larger than a 12″ rear wheel, engine must be air-cooled and no more than 140cc for instance. And then there is the final definition which are the crappy Chinese bikes marketed as “pit bikes”. So you see there is no one definition of a pit bike. If you have a PW80 most would consider that a pit bike since generally pit bikes are “kids bikes” with the Honda CRF50 and Kawasaki/Suzuki 110’s being the most popular pit bikes of all.

Pitbikes and dirtbikes are completely different animales.. While I agree with a lot of what the other answers have to say, its coming from people who have never delt with pit bikes.Pitbikes are serious machines. I would advise against a SSR though, the best out of the box pitbike right now is the Pitster pro LXR. However the kawasaki KLX110 is the most reliable out of all of them..but it takes quite a bit of $$ to make it into a big person bike. I Personally own a Thumpstar..I wouldnt suggest buying one of these as the aftermarket world is a lot better for the pister pro’s.And for the other answer that says pitbikes are for going to lunch and the port a pots… Ive got a Thumpstar with Marzocchi forks and Ohlins rear with a dynoed 17hp motor..nothing casual about it.
