Tattoo with an anchor with quote “I refuse to sink”?

I've been searching for a tattoo that holds personal meaning for me. I saw a design featuring an anchor, a few roses, and the quote “I refuse to sink,” all intertwined with an infinity rope. Does this symbolize hope and strength? Additionally, I've come across opinions online suggesting that an anchor tattoo is frivolous, as it symbolizes sinking. Is it really a silly choice for a tattoo?

I’ve seen this exact tattoo almost everywhere. I do agree that it’s silly, you want to get a tattoo that shows that you refuse to sink to low levels, you refuse to look back, but yet an anchor doesn’t symbolize that. An anchor symbolizes the exact opposite. Anchors are made to sink and keep a boat from wandering off. If you want to get a tattoo of something meaningful that represents strength and hope to you, I would tattoo something personal. Maybe a quote that lifts your spirits every time you read it, or reminds you to be strong during tough times? A symbol that reminds you of someone or something? Just don’t get a tattoo that contradicts itself.

I actually have a tattoo like that. I didn’t know it was actually a big thing until I looked up a style for it… People say it’s silly because anchors sink, but that’s not the whole point of the tattoo. The anchor is underneath the words and unattached, so the anchor isn’t pulling the words down. The entire point of the anchor is that it symbolizes hope. It can be referenced back to a bible verse, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure”. So, yes I can see how the two can clash, but the anchor isn’t meant to pull you down into the depths, it’s meant to be a firm sign of hope for you to hold onto. Anyway, if you’re only getting it because it’s something everyone is doing, don’t bother. I spent a long time deciding on mine. A tattoo should always have deeper meaning. I chose mine because it resonated with me and my life. And if you find it really does resonate with you, then what other people think of it really shouldn’t matter.

I have a anchor tattoo with I refuse to sink, however I have it as the anchor representing all the problems that I have faced during my life and the “I refuse to sink” it to show that no matter what the problem is, I don’t give up! But that just my view:)

An anchor with this quote symbolizes that no matter how much life throws at you, you won’t sink. The anchor is the opposite of the quote because it is to show that it can’t bring you down

I think it’s silly. As others have pointed out, yes, anchors do sink. You’d be better off getting a pool noodle instead of an anchor.

It’s not silly at all the anchor stands for stability and the quote means I won’t give up and yes anchors sink. But why would you get a balloon just because they don’t sink. Just put it like this imagine your attached to a balloon and screaming “I refuse to sink” It doesn’t make sense cause there is no way to sink on a balloon because it already floats. But if your attached to an anchor and screaming “I refuse to sink” it actually means your strong because the anchor is pulling you down and you won’t give up

‘When all else fails, get an anchor tattoo’? ‘Having an anchor stuck to my foot makes me walk in circles’? ‘Has anyone seen my boat’? actually that one’s good even without the anchor. @Alana, most potential employers would be far more concerned with a potential employee’s inability to spell. Idiot.

How??? How the F*** does an anchor symbolise that? BOATS float. Anchors SINK. Get it?

Anchors, roses, infinity, rope, a quote. Gee, it’s all startin’ to come together isn’t it?

“You can’t weigh me down” or something to do with not being ‘weighed down’ which would kind of relate to the anchor
