The car that Ice Cube drives in the movie All About the Benjamins is a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS.
After a hiatus of 25 years, the Chevrolet Impala SS returned for the 1994 model year with all the necessary performance enhancements to justify its final two letters. Based on a Chevy Caprice sedan, the SS featured a beefed-up LT1 V-8 engine, a lower, heavy-duty suspension derived from the Caprice police vehicle, larger brakes, a limited-slip differential, and dual exhausts.
To help passersby distinguish the Impala SS from standard Caprices, it was equipped with special five-spoke aluminum wheels and a rear spoiler, and all its exterior chrome trim was removed. The majority of the cars were painted black, which was the only color option in 1994 until dark cherry metallic and dark gray were added to the palette for 1995 and 1996.
The Chevrolet Impala SS was significantly more powerful than any standard Caprice, capable of accelerating to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds and completing the quarter mile in 15.4 seconds, outperforming contemporary four-door muscle cars, including the Ford Taurus SHO and the supercharged Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. However, it was not particularly quick off the line.
