The death penalty is imposed by ‘the state’ and it intentionally takes a human life which is the fundamental description of homicide. Thus, it is rightful to say that imposition of the death penalty is state sanctioned homicide. As a matter of fact, most death certificates for executed inmates check the cause of death as homicide since none of the other causes (natural, accidental, etc.) fit.NOTE: it is not technically accurate to call it “murder” as murder usually requires a maliced intent which is not present in executions (well, not technically!)...
