The group and I (am or are)?
Which is the correct way to phrase the following: "The group and I (am/are) going to the shops"? Should it instead be stated as "Me and the group are going to the shops"?

‘The group and I are going to the shops.’ Our group is going to the shops. My group is going to the shops. We are going to the shops.I’m going with my group to the shops.I’m going to the shops with my group.
Right: The group and I are going to the shops.Wrong: The group and I am going to the shops.Wrong: Me and the group are going to the shops.the group and I = weWe are going to the shops.
Firstly, when stating a list of people including yourself, always put yourself last on that list. That is the courteous and polite thing to do. This rules out “me and the group…”.Secondly, “the group and I” are multiple subjects, i.e. plural, so you need the plural verb “are” to go with them. So, “The group and I are going to the shops.”

there’s a group, and there is you, that makes TWO things. Plural subject=plural verb. The group and I ARE….
Would you really say My Mom and I is going shopping? I sure hope not.
Nancy Kay is right. It should be “The group and I are going to the shops” because there are multiple included subjects. However, note that you should usually put yourself after everyone else, not first (so, not “I, you, and Nancy are going out to eat,” but “You, Nancy, and I.”) You don’t need any commas in there.
