The ‘roger’ of japanese = ‘yokai’?
I was playing Vanquish on the PS3 and watching some anime, and I keep hearing the soldiers and robots responding with "yokai!" or something similar. When I search "yokai" on Google, it mentions that the translation refers to monsters and demons, which doesn't quite make sense in this context. I've started saying "yokai" every time I'm about to tackle something challenging. I would really like to know more about this term before I accidentally embarrass myself in front of a Japanese person. Is it similar to saying "yes sir," "roger," "affirmative," or "understood" (wakarimashita)? Or could it be katakana for "okay?" If so, that would make a lot more sense.

"Ryoukai" (ryôkai) is what you're looking for.
In Kanji, 了解
It means something along the lines of Roger/Affirmative/Understood/Got it etc. It's used very very frequently.
Incidentally, 妖怪 = youkai = monster
Why is "yokai" so commonly used as an affirmative resonse to orders? Examples are found in Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water eisode one and virtuall any iteraton of Uchuu Senkan Yamato.
