What does it mean if your urine smells like black pepper when you urinate?

What does it mean if my urine smells like black pepper when I urinate? I've noticed this unusual odor recently and would like to understand if it's a cause for concern. Thank you.

Not Medical Advice: The information we have indicates that foul-smelling urine could be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI). Typically, it is a symptom of lower UTIs, which affect the urethra and bladder.

The consumption of certain foods, such as asparagus (which can impart a characteristic odor to urine), and the use of some medications may also cause changes in the odor of urine.

A urine sample and culture would be necessary to confirm the presence of an infection. Additional scans of the abdomen may also be required. It is advisable to seek medical assistance, as you may need prescribed medications, such as antibiotics, based on the test results.

Most people take bladder control for granted. However, for approximately one-third of individuals aged 30 to 70, incontinence is a significant issue. For tips on maintaining bladder health and managing incontinence, refer to Health.com.
