What are the barnacles doing on Mahogany’s chest in Midnight Meat Train?
In the film "Midnight Meat Train," there is a scene where the killer cuts barnacle-like protrusions from his chest in front of a mirror, subsequently placing them into jars in his medicine cabinet. The film does not provide any explanation for these protrusions. Initially, we speculated that the main character might end up with similar barnacles by the end of the movie, but that outcome is not explicitly shown. Is this a case of poor screenwriting, or could there be a deeper significance to these barnacles?

It does seem kind of pointless, I thought it was just a result of being the butcher for the monsters, maybe a disease of sorts from them. Not sure why he would save them though. I would assume the main character would get them too. Maybe it was something from the short story?
