Perhaps this article will settle the argument:

NEWFOUNDLAND IN THE NOVEL AND PLAY.

SAINT BERNARD IN THE DISNEY MOVIE

http://neverpedia.com/pan/Nana

In the script for the play, Barrie specifies that Nana is a Newfoundland. (Luath, the Barries’ dog at that time, was a Newfoundland.) This is confirmed in the text of the novel Peter and Wendy. However, when Barrie first conceived Peter Pan, his dog was Porthos, a Saint Bernard. Porthos and Luath were superficially similar in appearance. In Disney’s animated adaptation, Nana was clearly depicted as a SAINT BERNARD, and the dogs who played Nana in P. J. Hogan’s 2003 adaptation were also Saint Bernards.

The dog Nana in James M. Barrie’s Peter Pan was a Newfoundland. (Newfie owners resent the depiction of her as a St. Bernard in the Disney animated film version; the 2004 film Finding Neverland used a Great Pyrenees).

Bottom line…if you GOOGLE “Peter Pan Nana” you’ll get pictures of almost every kind of dog known to man…probably because Peter Pan has been played out so many times with a variety of different kinds of dogs.

Nana is a St. Bernard who appears in Disney’s 1953 animated film Peter Pan. Nana is a nursemaid who help the Darling family. This breed of dogs is known to be a ‘rescue dog’. That is why she was portrayed as a nanny in the movie.

There is nothing morally wrong in breeding dogs, if the reason is because you just love dogs. I dont necessarily support breeding, because like yourself I am against it. There are so many abandoned and homeless dogs that need to be adopted, I dont feel that any more dogs need to be brought into the world, but like I said, its not actually wrong, as long as its done humanely. So its really up to her, and she sounds like a genuine animal lover so thats an upside.
