Not Legal Advice: Maiming by mob is a felony that was enacted in Virginia after the Civil War to combat lynching. Maiming by mob is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Maiming by mob is defined in Virginia Code Section 18.2-41: Shooting, stabbing, etc., with intent to maim, kill, etc., by mob.

Any and every person composing a mob which shall maliciously or unlawfully shoot, stab, cut or wound any person, or by any means cause him bodily injury with intent to maim, disable, disfigure or kill him, shall be guilty of a Class 3 felony.

To secure a conviction for "maiming by mob," the evidence must establish that the defendant was a member of a group constituting a mob; that the mob caused the victim bodily injury; and that the mob acted with malicious intent "to maim, disable, or kill" the victim.

In 1993, retired professional basketball player Allen Iverson (who was 18 at the time) and his co-defendants were charged with "maiming by mob."
