“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” – Albert EinsteinFactual knowledge is an affirmation. When we take two concepts and add them together, then something is affirmed. For example, “run” and “boys” are joined together to produce the affirmation “boys run”. All affirmations are either true or false. It is true that boys run because some boys run. Concepts can also point out individuals. So “Tim” and “is little” can be joined to make the affirmation “Tim is little”. We know that factual knowledge of a knowledge of affirmations because it is a knowledge of facts. Facts are just statements about the world that are true. This means that factual knowledge is limited to true affirmations. False affirmations are not knowledge because they are not true statements about the world. Whether factual knowledge is simply true affirmations about the world is another matter. It seems that we could have a true affirmation that is not knowledge. For example, suppose a ‘remote viewer’ claimed to know what the President of the US was doing right now. Suppose that this remote viewer was correct. It certainly does not follow that the remote viewer knows what the President was doing right now. We would be foolish to act on the affirmations of this remote viewer or believe what she said. Knowledge also includes ideas that we acquire through study, research, investigation, observation, or experience. Insight is the deepest level of knowing and the most meaningful to your life. Insight is a deeper and clearer perception of life, of knowledge, of wisdom. It is grasping the underlying nature of knowledge, and the essence of wisdom.Knowledge is knowing which things, practices, people, and pleasures make you happy.Wisdom is knowing that while those things may bring you pleasure, happiness is not derived from things or situations or people. It’s understanding that happiness comes from within, and that it’s a temporary state of mind.Insight is knowing that happiness is not the purpose of life, that it’s not the marker of the quality of life—it’s merely one of the many fleeting states of mind in the spectrum of full emotions. Those emotions don’t make up our lives; they are merely experiences. While acquiring and applying knowledge is valuable in and of itself, we also need to distill and judge that information, and ultimately find the deeper meaning and relevance to the whole of our lives through insight. Sadly we can gain a lifetime of knowledge, yet never see the wisdom in it. We can be wise, but still miss the deeper meaning.http://www.answers.com/topic/Insighthttp://www.humanities-ebooks.co.uk/philosophy-insi…Children grown in wilderness also acquire knowledge. But it will not be systematic organization of facts they knew.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feral_childhttp://www.damninteresting.com/feral-children/http://listverse.com/2008/03/07/10-modern-cases-of…Feral Children Psychologyhttp://www.buzzle.com/articles/feral-children.html... I totally agree, and even when those facts are incorrect there seems to be a competition in knowing all those new fixes and advances without thinking we really knew nothing at all. I disagree with you in one thing though. I live in a small city in the relative third world and I went to study to Europe for one year. I learned so much just by talking to people, knowing how we differ in customs or in the way we think, what they value much more than I do, what we have that they don’t in retrospective of quality of life, how they arrange their priorities. So all in all I am a believer that there is also an “emotional” “experience related” type of knowledge that changed me and my way of thinking. In fact, I put it to the test and many other friends of mine that went to study to Europe, I gave them a hug and told them good bye to the old “you” because when you return, you will be a different person. All of them acknowledged that I was right. So there is knowledge that is learned socially and is not a written book kind of knowledge that’s systematically organized because its really up to you to discover it and how you feel about those experiences that will determine your knowledge, even without the need for them to be hard facts.... In western philosophy the general way – although not the only way – is to view knowledge as: (a) justified (b) true (c) belief. Of course each of these 3 components represents a specific field of study in epistemology, e.g. (b): here the different theories of the nature of truth will be studied. So its not that easy and simple to define “knowledge”.... Show More
People used to “know” that the earth was flat, that the sun went around the earth, and that there were witches. There is political knowledge, and what you read in the papers. It doesnt have to be systematic, or even correct. We need to be very careful with knowledge, particularly when it comes from “experts”.... Show More
Absolutely it is “nothing more than”. This is the taxonomy of the metaphysics/ontology of concepts. In other words, why is one concept coherently linked to another concept in such a way as to provide what is presumed to be knowledge?http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/truth-coherence/http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/words.htmlTo “know” that wolves, foxes, dogs and other animals are all “canines”, for example, we must categorize them by certain traits. Who decides which traits? The scientists, and sometimes they change their minds, which is a necessary part of “knowing”. But those chosen traits are chosen precisely because they all fit “coherently” together. Coherence is one part of the system. But coherence isn’t infallible. Without a “correspondence” to the facts as perceived, coherency doesn’t have a hook to hang its hat on. http://www.iep.utm.edu/truth/#H3... Show More
It’s not enough to just gather knowledge. All knowledge must be assimilated and applied or it is wasted. If you don’t assimilate, it’s like remembering things for Trivial Pursuit.... Show More
TOTALLY AGREE.Thats’ why there is no outcome of TRUE CHANGE. If there was, no HINDU or BUDDHIST would allow other humans to bow down to themselves; because they have a lot of knowledge… BUT STILL ALL the PRIDE is there, the jealousy, the greed…and exploiting vulnerable humans. There is only ONE CREATOR.When you bow down to HIM, he takes care of you in every which way, and you give out freely without expecting anything from those that you give. You have FAITH, and you work for HIM; and you love and respect but NOT BOW DOWN to anyone. Then HE gives you TRUE WISDOM..That is tacit knowledge and can not be found in any book, and it means something different for everyone hearing it. 10 Then the disciples came and asked him, ‘Why do you speak to them in parables?’ 11 He answered, ‘To you it has been given to know the secrets[b] of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For to those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. 13 The reason I speak to them in parables is that “seeing they do not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand.” 14 With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah that says:“You will indeed listen, but never understand, and you will indeed look, but never perceive.15 For this people’s heart has grown dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; so that they might not look with their eyes, and listen with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn— and I would heal them.”16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. 17 Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it. In philosophy, theology, and ideology knowledge is not synonymous with fact.... Show More
Obviously you never got the memo; The new, critically updated, all inclusive, final, Universal definition of ‘Knowledge’; “‘Knowledge’ is ‘that which is perceived’, Here! Now!!” All inclusive! That which is perceived by the unique individual Perspective is ‘knowledge’. All we can ‘know’ is what we perceive, Now! and Now! and Now!!!‘Ignorance’ is that which is NOT perceived, at any particular moment, by any particular unique Perspective!... Show More
