stress tends to manifest itself in physical, emotional, behavioral, or all of the above changes?

What is the best way to describe how stress manifests? Does it typically result in physical changes, emotional changes, behavioral changes, or a combination of all three?

Stress is the “wear and tear” our bodies experience as we adjust to our continually changing environment; it has physical and emotional effects on us and can create positive or negative feelings. As a positive influence, stress can help compel us to action; it can result in a new awareness and an exciting new perspective. As a negative influence, it can result in feelings of distrust, rejection, anger, and depression, which in turn can lead to health problems such as headaches, upset stomach, rashes, insomnia, ulcers, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. With the death of a loved one, the birth of a child, a job promotion, or a new relationship, we experience stress as we readjust our lives. In so adjusting to different circumstances, stress will help or hinder us depending on how we react to it.

Oh, without a doubt. There have even been documented cases of people dying of a “broken heart”. In this instance, doctors say that people got such a shock, such as news of a loved one’s death, that a perfectly normal heart can react in such away that a person can have an “episode” that leads to death. Emotional pain, not treated, can lead to depression, which can manifest itself in a number of ways, and people can simply “waste away”, by not eating properly, which can lead to physical problems, other medical conditions, etc. The body is like a well-oiled machine. It must be taken care of, and given proper fuel and maintenance. If this does not happen, it will eventually. I know a couple of people who literally suffered physical pain due to emotional pain–in the form of stomach aches, headaches, general anxiety, depression…and one person pretty much died from it…the other became an alcoholic and will likely die. Both were after the death of a loved one.

all of the above. Not necessarily all of the above at the exact same time, but different people handle stress differently.
