My volleyball coach frequently mentions the term "shagging the ball." Can someone explain what this means?

&ldquo;Shag&rdquo; simply means to get the ball.So say you&rsquo;re doing a serving drill and your team is lined up all on one endline. After all the balls are served over and you have no more left, she will probably yell, &ldquo;Shag the balls!&rdquo;She means to get all the balls and return them to the cart or whatever you use to contain the volleyballs. And note- shagging is done at a run, or at the very least a jog. Many times we&rsquo;ve had to do punishment drills for walking to shag balls before we learned!

You may be told this as a group. such as when you’re doing a group drill and the coach is low on balls, or as an individual, such as when you are doing hitting lines. Most coaches expect this to be done fast, hustle is normally expected.
