What force is exerted if the spring constant is 160 N/m?

An orthodontic spring, connected between the upper and lower jaws, is adjusted to provide no force with the mouth open. When the patient closes her mouth, however, the spring compresses by 6.0 mm.Any help on this please? I thought I had the right formula for this from a problem I did in class, but after trying to solve I realize the problem isn't actually similar and the formula I have doesn't apply, and I'm not sure how to solve this.

There is only one formula for the force on a Hookean spring:F = k*xHere, F = 160N/m * 0.0060m = 0.96 NIf you find this helpful, please award Best Answer!... Show More
